Elena Hämäläinen

Cello - Principal

Elena Hämäläinen studied at the Turku Academy of Music and the University of Gothenburg, graduating with a master’s degree in music in 2009. At the age of 24, she got tenure with the Malmö Opera Orchestra, where she worked for a few seasons. The journey from Malmö continued for a few years to Spain, where Hämäläinen served as assistant principal cello of the Oviedo Philharmonic Orchestra for a year.

Hämäläinen has worked in the Vaasa City Orchestra since autumn 2016, today she has tenure as the principal cello. As a soloist, Hämäläinen has played the cello concertos of Haydn, Prokofiev, and Elgar, among others.
