Light painting is a magical technique that opens up a whole new dimension to photography. Light painting workshops are organised on 7 October at 9.30, 10.30, 11.30, 12.30 and 13.30. Book a workshop for your group/class and learn how to paint with light! Age recommendation for children: 3–12 years. Register at: tiina.paalanen@vamia.fi by 25 September.  

21 October – 1 November | Culture Dive: Dance workshops for primary schools | Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia | Free dance workshops for schools

The Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia organises dance workshops free of charge for 21 October – 1 November 2024. The workshops are booked in advance and hey will take place on weekdays at the requested time and date. Age recommendation for children: 6–12 years Book a workshop between 1 September and 6 October with Reija Penttinen, producer at the Regional Centre for Dance in Ostrobothnia, by e-mail: reija.penttinen@pohjanmaantanssi.fi. Maximum number of participants is approximately 20 people per workshop. 

Dance workshop for 3rd and 4th graders. Bringing the joy of dance and creativity to the school day! The dance workshops, allow children to enjoy the flow of dance, giving them a rich experience of creative movement. The idea is to explore the diverse expression and holistic use of the body in contemporary dance. Dancing develops coordination, body awareness and control, creativity and the courage to express oneself. The workshops are based on the skills of the group. The workshop is also suited for participants with motor issues. Duration: 45–90 minutes. Instructor: Members of the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia specialising in artistic-pedagogical activity. Space & technical requirements: A large gym and sound system that can connect with a mobile device or computer. Participants should wear flexible clothing suitable for any gym class, and wear slippers or bare feet. 

3–4 October and 8–11 October | Culture Dive: Pedagogical ‘Eastern Spirituality weeks’ | 9.00–14.00 | Vaasa City Museums | Tikanojan Art Museum, Hovioikeudenpuistikko 4

One tour and workshop last 1-1,15 hour Explore the exhibition and make your own mandala in the workshop. Ideas of the deep, spiritual wisdom of the East have long fascinated people living in the West. The exhibition sheds light on the history of these ideas and shows how since the late 19th century, artists have been influenced by yoga, oriental dance and the teachings of the Eastern sages – and how their fascination with Eastern spirituality is reflected in their art.  

These pedagogical weeks are ideally intended for 7th graders, but other grades are also welcome to participate. Free of charge for kindergartens and schools in Vaasa.

8 October and 22 October | Culture Dive: ‘Amazing Chemistry of Red Cabbage’ workshop | 9.00–9.45 and 10.00–10.45 | LUMA Centre Ostrobotnia | SAGA science class, University of Vaasa, Technobothnia Puuvillakuja 3

The ‘Amazing Chemistry of Red Cabbage’ workshop is aimed at Viskari groups (5-year-olds), pre-school groups (6-year-olds) and primary school pupils in grades 1 and 2. In the colourful workshops children explore the properties of different substances with the help of the red cabbage indicator. The workshops culminate in a burst of creativity as participants paint on magic paper. Age recommendation for children: approx. 5–8 years; the workshops are free of charge. | Pre-registration Registration for the autumn 2024 workshops opens on the LUMA Centre Ostrobothnia website on 12 August 2024 at 8.00. The maximum number of participants is 24 per workshop.
