Ulrika Ferm
The artistic work of visual artist Ulrika Ferm (b. 1972) is characterized by a broad range in terms of both content and working methods. She is an example of a research artist, for whom archival research, historical writing or the socio-political content of society are the starting points of her work. The artist has been interested in weather and the state of the weather, which has been the common denominator of her projects in recent years.
The solo exhibition at the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art focuses on the weather. In her latest drawings, the artist has depicted the cloud formations seen from her studio as a series. In her earlier video works and multi-channel video installations, she has captured both Irish fog and Armenian weather metaphors.
Ulrika Ferm has been active in Vaasa since the beginning of the 2000s as a member and founder of the contemporary art association Platform. She was selected as the Young Artist of the Year in 2002 and has since had an impact not only on Finnish contemporary art but also internationally. Ferm worked as a professor of place- and situation-related art at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki, from 2013 to 2020, which is why her solo exhibition will be accompanied by a thematically relevant selection of contemporary artists linked to the Academy.
Ulrika Ferm is currently working at the Pro Artibus Foundation’s three-year artist residency at Vasa Academill during 2024–2026. The Pro Artibus Foundation will have a regional focus on projects in Ostrobothnia during 2024–2025 and has produced the exhibition in collaboration with the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art.
