The City of Vaasa has a desire to develop a service to promote sustainable commuting for its employees. The intention is to create an initial push to encourage the city’s organizations to offer sustainable ways for commute and to increase the number of cyclists and pedestrians when commuting. The assignment is initially defined to incorporate transportation by foot or bicycle. It is however planned that both electric car sharing services, and public transportation will be incorporated in the service.
The objective is to investigate the city’s employees accustomed patterns and their reasons for choosing a certain transportation type. This is to help Vaasa strengthen its knowledge about the barriers and incentives entangled in the systemic structures and mental models of the employees. The investigation will be utilized in the development of the city’s sustainable mobility programs.
The project will also function also as a marketing campaign, promoting sustainable commuting as well as strengthening Vaasas sustainability profile.
