Vote for the recipient of the 2024 Vaasa Cultural Achievement of the Year award in March

The nominees for the 2024 Vaasa Cultural Achievement of the Year are:

1. Wasa Sinfonietta
   A 95-year-old amateur orchestra with around 60 active members, ranging from students to retirees. Wasa Sinfonietta collaborates extensively with other cultural organisations in Vaasa and performs regularly, including at care homes.
2. Vaasa Artists’ Guild
   The relocation of the Vaasa Artists’ Guild to the Vaasa City Art Gallery has brought art closer to the city’s residents. In addition to the exhibitions, the adjacent art lending service offers everyone the opportunity to enjoy art in their own home.
3. Malviniemi Company
   The contemporary dance group, founded in 2011, produces annual dance performances and offers inclusive dance art content, including for seniors. Mia Malviniemi and Mervi Junkkonen’s dance film Samassa veneessä (‘In the Same Boat’) tells the story of Raimo from Vaasa. The film has received recognition both in Finland and internationally. By 2024, it had been screened at 17 festivals and seen by over a thousand people.

On Wednesday, 5 March, from 18–19, the nominees representing Wasa Sinfonietta, the Vaasa Artists’ Guild, and Malviniemi Company will present their activities to the public at Restaurant Kulma in Vaasa City Theatre.

A total of 68 residents submitted suggestions for the 2024 Cultural Achievement, highlighting 49 cultural organisations in Vaasa. The award will be presented to an individual or group whose activities have contributed to the enrichment of the city’s cultural life. The award is worth 2,000 euros and is now being presented for the sixth time.
