Vote for one of seven ideas to be implemented with €15,000!

Published: 25.3.2024

The City of Vaasa has allocated €15,000 this year for the implementation of residents’ ideas through participatory budgeting. Vaasa residents were invited to submit their ideas in January and February, and a total of an impressive 429 ideas were received. The voting for the winner is open online until April 14, and the winner will be announced on May 6.

– We received a fantastic number of proposals. The list included delightful new ideas and always-useful favourites from past years, and suggestions were submitted in three languages. We discussed the proposals across multiple sectors, and common, relevant, and feasible ideas emerged prominently once again, reflecting the current year’s priorities within the allocated budget. We thank everyone who contributed their ideas, says Suvi Aho, strategy and regional services manager.

The aim of participatory budgeting is to involve citizens in the development of their own environment and to highlight ways in which public funds can be utilised.

In 2023, the winning idea was the ice swimming area in the Inner Harbor.

– The ice swimming area received great popularity, and people were truly pleased with it. I believe it encouraged many new Vaasa residents to participate this year, Aho rejoices.
