Vaasa wins Yle’s i love muovi campaign
Published: 17.5.2019
In April, the City of Vaasa participated in national broadcaster Yle's i love muovi (plastic) recycling campaign. During the campaign, Vaasa competed against Tampere, Lahti, Joensuu and Oulu to collect the most recyclable packaging waste. The winner of the competition was announced on YLE's live TV broadcast on Saturday May 4. Vaasa came in first place in the competition.
The competition time for Vaasa was 10.-12.4., which culminated in an organised event on the market square on April 12. Every Vaasa resident was allowed to participate in the competition by bringing their own packaging plastic waste to the competition collection points. A total of 3 869.6 kg of plastic was collected in Vaasa during the competition, which was proportional to the population.
The aim of the campaign was to spread information about plastic recycling, in order to get Finns to sort their plastic packaging and to value plastic as a raw material. Plastic recycling and its development in Vaasa will continue.
