Published: 7.4.2025

The swimming season at the Inner Harbour’s winter swimming area will end after Easter, in week 17. The winter swimming area will reopen in the autumn when the winter swimming season begins again.

The pedestrian bridge leading to the winter swimming area, located at the end of Hietasaarenkatu, will be closed during week 17. The exact closing date is yet to be confirmed.

– With the weather becoming sunnier in warmer in May, more people will be spending time at the beaches. The closure aims to prevent vandalism, says Jarmo Latvala, Service Manager of the Green Spaces Team.

Heating elements to be installed in the stairs

The winter season at the winter swimming area has gone smoothly, with no incidents of vandalism reported. The feedback has been very positive, and there has been a good turnout of swimmers.

Heating elements have already been purchased for the stairs leading down to the water for the upcoming winter swimming season. They will keep the first steps of the stairs free from ice in freezing weather.

The winter swimming area at the Inner Harbour, which is open to all and free of charge, was opened in December 2023.
