The Vaasa Choir Festival will fill the city with song in May
Published: 24.1.2025
The Vaasa Choir Festival will take place again from 22 to 24 May 2025, and ticket sales are now underway. The festival’s main performers include the Turku-based chamber choir Key Ensemble, accompanied by the Vaasa City Orchestra, as well as the immensely popular Semmarit, who will mark their 35th anniversary with an impressive concert hall tour.
Key Ensemble is renowned for its rich sound and innovative concert programmes. The choir has been a leading name in the Finnish choral scene for over 15 years.
Seminaarimäen Mieslaulajat (Semmarit), meanwhile, will present a new show at the festival, specially designed for the grand stages of concert halls. The ‘Mammarit 35th Anniversary’ concert will showcase new material from Semmarit, reimagined versions of older songs, and familiar classic hits.
This year, the Choir Festival will take place a week before Ascension Day, which has traditionally marked the beginning of the festival. This is because Ascension Day coincides with the school graduation weekend.

Collaborative programming
The Choir Festival programme will be finalised in February, and the organisers are inviting businesses, associations, choirs, and individuals to contribute to the planning.
– During the festival, choirs can perform at a variety of events, such as family gatherings, exhibition openings, or even in workplaces to brighten the day, suggests Ilkka Nyqvist, Producer.
Registration for choirs is open until the end of January. When registering, choirs can submit requests regarding the content and locations of performances. The organisers will do their best to bring all ideas to life.
New events for the audience
The 2025 festival promises new experiences: Culture House Fanny will host a pop & rock evening on Friday, 23 May, and Choir Karaoke will take place at the Jolene nightclub on Saturday, 24 May.
The festival programme also includes the traditional evening events at Villa Sandviken, along with many free concerts around the city, such as non-stop choir performances at the Rewell Shopping Centre.
