The official inauguration ceremony of Vaasa’s new mobile library, Hilda, will take place at Vaasa’s Market Square on Saturday, 5 April, from 11 to 13.

Programme:

  • Opening words – Director of Culture and Library Services Sanna Bondas
  • Inaugural speech – Director of Education Christina Knookala
  • Music performance – Class 4M of Onkilahti Comprehensive School, led by teacher Anne Tienhaara
  • Hip hop dance performance – Kipinä Dance School
  • Ribbon-cutting ceremony
  • Selfie spot – Take a selfie next to Hilda!

After the ceremony, the public will be able to explore the new mobile library with guidance from the library staff. Items can be borrowed immediately with a library card. If you do not have a library card yet, you can obtain one if you have an ID with you.

The name of the library bus was chosen in honour of Hilda Hellman (1839–1901), a significant figure in the development of library services in Vaasa. The design of the new, accessible mobile library was created by the artist Terese Bast from Pietarsaari. Children played a key role in selecting the design. The new mobile library will tour schools and daycare centres, as well as serve different neighbourhoods on weekday afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays.

Welcome to celebrate and explore the new Hilda mobile library!
