The Meta Isæus-Berlin exhibition is coming to an end at Kuntsi – final day on 29 March

Published: 20.3.2025

There is still time to discover the works of one of Sweden’s most significant contemporary artists, as Meta Isæus-Berlin’s extensive solo exhibition The Philosopher remains on display at the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art in Vaasa. The exhibition will end earlier than previously announced, on Saturday, 29 March, due to changes in the museum’s opening hours.

Meta Isæus-Berlin (b. 1963) is an internationally acclaimed artist who has represented Sweden at the Venice and Istanbul Biennales, among others. The Philosopher exhibition features a collection of over 50 works spanning the artist’s 30-year career. The exhibition includes drawings, assemblages, textile works, large-scale installations, paintings, and sculptures.

Isæus-Berlin’s works could be characterised as dreamlike and surreal. She makes use of diverse materials, infusing everyday objects with deeper meanings. The exhibition also features entirely new installations created specifically for the Kuntsi exhibition, including Awakening III, in which the artist revisits a recurring theme – a bathroom chaotically overflowing with water.

The extensive exhibition, which opened in early November, has already attracted 4,000 visitors and received praise in the museum’s feedback survey for its diversity and inspiration. The exhibition was also part of the Art Testers 2024–2025 programme.

The Philosopher is on display until 29 March 2025 and will not be shown elsewhere in Finland. The Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 to 17.

The next exhibitions at the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art will open on 26 April 2025. The museum will be closed until then.
