A photographic exhibition about the first moon landing opens at Terranova

At Terranova in the Ostrobothnian Museum, the photographic exhibition Man to the Moon 55 opens on 3 July 2024. Through photographs, the exhibition tells the story of the first moon landing, which will have been 55 years ago this year. The exhibition about the Apollo 11 moon landing is on display until the autumn, and it also highlights the fact that American Finns participated in the US space programme. Later in the year, there will be a continuation of the exhibition when it deals with other moon landings. The exhibition has been produced by the VB Photography Centre and the Ostrobothnian Museum.

The Ostrobothnian Museum also has longer-term collection exhibitions: Treasures from near and far and Vaasa 400.

Events at the Museum of Old Vaasa in August

The anniversary of Vaasa’s great fire is celebrated at the Museum of Old Vaasa on Saturday 3 August. The Museum of Old Vaasa is one of the few buildings not destroyed in the great fire of 1852. Guided tours on the subject are promised at 13:00 in Finnish, at 14:00 in Swedish and at 15:00 in English. Admission to the event is free.

On Old Vasa Day, Sunday 18 August, you can familiarise yourself with the museum by taking part in short guided tours at 14:00 in English, 15:00 in Finnish and 16:00 in Swedish. During the day an art workshop ‘I hope you will grow’ is arranged by artists Alan Bulfin and Pii Anttila in Louko’s Cottage. During the art instruction, you will make your own story cube; by throwing a dice, you illustrate a picture book that you made yourself. People of all ages can participate in the workshop, which is free.

In August, the Museum of Old Vaasa will also open the exhibition Tar and Sea Spray, which was produced by KulturÖsterbotten together with other maritime museums in the region.

Vaasa’s museums are open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00-17:00 during the Night of the Arts on Thursday 15 August. Among Vaasa’s museums, the Ostrobothnian Museum, Tikanoja Art Museum and Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art will be open from 15:00-21:00.
