Summer artists perform at events and assisted living facilities

The summer artists performing in various parts of Vaasa are young musicians and artists from Vaasa. During Midsummer week, the young musicians will perform at Vaasa’s market square.
This year, the young summer artists hired by the Cultural and Library Services of the City of Vaasa are Karoliina Krook, Jenita Pokela, Joona Keturi and Lina Railio. A total of 14 young people applied to be a summer artist.
Summer artists perform from June to July in various places around Vaasa, and this summer there are concerts especially in assisted living facilities. Young musicians can also be heard at various summer events, such as the Isolahti summer opening event. During Midsummer week, the young musicians will perform at Vaasa’s market square.
In addition to musicians, Lina Railio, who is studying visual art, will be leading workshops in assisted living facilities, and will be painting her own works in front of the Sweet Vaasa cafe in Hovioikoudenpuistikko during the summer.
Platform for budding artists
Karoliina Krook is an 18-year-old flautist from Vaasa, who has been playing the flute at the Kuula-opisto for 13 years. Karoliina’s repertoire includes both classical flute pieces and pop-inspired summer songs. As a summer artist, Karoliina hopes to be able to perform for children and seniors as well as at various events where she can make people happy through music.
Jenita Pokela is a 21-year-old university student, who sings and plays the guitar. Jenita, who was in a specialised music class, also took guitar and band lessons at the Vaasa Rock School for five years and has also played in two different bands.
Joona Keturi is a 21-year-old student, who moved to Berlin to pursue music studies. He plays the guitar as his main instrument, but also bass and drums. He plays guitar and composes songs in the Pholexia rock band from Vaasa. Joona is studying guitar for the first year at BIMM University in Berlin and teaches guitar to people of all ages.
Lina Railio is a 23-year-old student, who is studying visual arts in her third year at the University of Applied Sciences in Novia. She has been making her own art since she was a child attending the TaiKon basic art education line. Along with her studies, she also does graphic design and game design. She is interested in different techniques for making art, such as sculpture, painting and digital art.
The summer artists can be invited to perform at various events by contacting the Cultural Services of the City of Vaasa.
