Onkilahti Traffic Park will open on 2 May
Published: 9.4.2025
The traffic park located in Onkilahti Activity Park in Vaasa will open again on Friday, 2 May.
The traffic park will be open on weekdays (Mon–Fri) from 12 to 18 and on weekends from 12 to 16.
The traffic park is open to groups on weekdays from 9 to 12. During this time, groups such as daycare groups and school classes are welcome to visit the park. Group visits should be booked in advance.
Visitors move around in pedal cars on a 640-metre-long track. In the traffic park, children can practise their traffic skills through play and fun.
The recommended age is 6–12 years
The traffic park is run by the City of Vaasa’s Youth Services. The park’s instructors include both youth services staff and summer employees.
The recommended age for driving in the park is between 6 and 12 years old. Children aged 4 to 6 may use a pedal car if accompanied and assisted by a parent, says Mika Pietilä, Director of Youth Affairs.
The maximum number of pedal cars on the track during any session is 20. Each driving session begins with a brief orientation for everyone. The driving sessions start every 30 minutes.
Vaasa in miniature
The free-entry traffic park, which opened last August, is like a miniature version of Vaasa. The park features scale models of the City Hall, the railway station, the Alkula farm, the University of Vaasa and the water tower, among others.
The park also features the Market Square, a roundabout, traffic lights and level crossings, a Lifti bus, and a fuel station.
Events and dedicated driving sessions for young people
Pietilä says the idea for this season is to organise small-scale events at the traffic park, where possible.
We are also considering dedicated driving sessions for older youth, specifically those aged 13 and above.
