New cycling track opens in Suvilahti

Published: 17.9.2024

A new skills track has been opened for cyclists on the east side of the closed landfill in Suvilahti. The track is a fairly challenging off-road route and is mainly suitable for all-terrain or off-road bikes.

The track is located east of Lekatie by the closed landfill in Suvilahti. There are two entrances to the track along the service road around the landfill (see map).

The track is 1.6 kilometres long.

Direction of travel is anti-clockwise

The track has been cleared as planned and surfaced with crushed stone. The altitude differences are fairly moderate, but there are a few larger mounds along the track.

The track runs anti-clockwise, and there will also be signs indicating the direction of travel. A helmet is mandatory when cycling on the track.

The former landfill site is being prepared for recreational use

The closed landfill site at Suvilahti is being prepared for recreational use in accordance with a recreational area plan (in Finnish). Currently, the surface structure of the landfill is being finalised, and this work is expected to be completed in 2025.

Construction of recreational areas will begin once the landfill closure structures have been approved by the relevant authorities. Plans for the area include an outdoor fitness track, bird watching platforms and Bikepark off-road bike trails.
