The leading voice for young people in Vaasa
– The Youth Council is the leading voice for young people in the city towards decision-makers. It is important that we have representatives from diverse backgrounds, which is why everyone interested should stand for these elections. This way, we can ensure that the voice of young people is heard broadly, says Aaro Helo, Chair of the Youth Council.
The aim of the Youth Council is to represent and promote the views of young people in decision-making. A representative of the Youth Council has the right to attend and speak at City Council meetings as well as at the meetings of five city boards. Youth councillors may also put forward initiatives and express opinions on current issues.
In addition, the Youth Council has its own annual budget for organising activities for young people and awarding operating grants to youth groups.
In total, 22 full members and 10 substitute members are elected for the council. Youth Council elections are held every two years.
