International Vaasa even more international in March

The annual EnergyWeek held on 20-24 of March 2023 has grown bigger than ever before. Energyweek 2023 attracted visitors and business delegations from all over the world including eight ambassadors.
Vaasa welcomed the Indonesian Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Ratu Silvy Gayatri on Monday, 20th of March. Mrs. Silvy attended the Global Village Seminar at Novia University of Applied Science. During her presentation, Mrs. Silvy encouraged Finnish companies and investors to offer their services on upcoming projects in Indonesia. The biggest planned project is to build Indonesia’s new capital city Nusantara.
”This is a big project, we need investors from foreign countries to provide their expertise and jobs to the Indonesian people.”
The ambassador also congratulated Novia UAS and their Indonesian partner Lambung Mangkurat University for their started collaboration.
On Tuesday 21st of March, together with thousands of other international guests a total of six ambassadors were attending EnergyWeek in Vaasa. The ambassadors held presentations during the first two seminars on Tuesday. They spoke about impacts of the war on Ukraine and the world as well as energy transition, sustainability actions and waste free economy from their home country´s perspective.
They also discussed how Europe and especially Finland can support the recovery of post war Ukraine with sustainable energy solutions. During the seminar, the Ambassador of Ukraine said ”Our strongest believe now is the believe in the victory of Ukraine, in the victory of our friends, allies, humane and civilized world.”
Later on the ambassadors attended a lunch hosted by the Mayor of Vaasa, Tomas Häyry together with all the ambassadors and regional partners. After the lunch they visited Wärtsilä’s Sustainable Technology Hub together with a delegation from Chile and Poland. The hosts at Wärtsilä were Mr. Juha Päivike and Mr. Kenneth Engblom.
The next day the Ambassador of Ukraine, Mrs. Olga Dibrova together with her husband Mr. Yevhen Dibrov visited the Mayor of Vaasa. They discussed about possible bilateral cooperation between Vaasa and Ukraine. The same day the city also welcomed a delegation from South Africa.
On Friday 24th of March, The Ambassador of Thailand, H.E. Ms Chavanart Thangsumphant attended the last day of EnergyWeek and later met with the Mayor of Vaasa, Mr. Tomas Häyry. She expressed her impression of Vaasa being a more international city than Helsinki. In her opinion Vaasa is a very promising city for developing and generating happiness for everyone due to the low unemployment rate and the city’s effort to become more international. It is her wish for educational institutions in Vaasa to partner up with Thai universities since Finland is known for having excellent education.
The Ambassadors stayed in Vaasa 1-3 days each to enhance business opportunities within the energy and educational sector between their home countries and Finland.
