Hedman Medals awarded for significant work in local heritage

Local heritage museum activists from Vaasa, Mustasaari, and Korsnäs were awarded the Hedman Medal on 19 March 2025 at a ceremony held at the Ostrobothnian Museum. The medals are awarded by the Vaasa-based Hedman Foundation together with the Ostrobothnian Historical Museum Association.

The Hedman Medal has been awarded since 1965 in recognition of significant work in local heritage. This year, the medal was awarded to:

  • Kjell Nybacka (Sundom Bygdeförening)
  • Henrik Fågelbärj (Vaasa-Mustasaari guide)
  • Joel Lenlund (A founding member of the Korsnäs local heritage association)
  • Erkki Rintala (for his life’s work of significant legal and cultural-historical importance)
  • Pia Lahdenmäki (the Hedman Foundation)

The medals were awarded to the recipients at the Ostrobothnian Museum on Wednesday, 19 March by the Chair of the Hedman Foundation Mikko Könkkölä.

The Hedman Foundation supports local heritage work

The Hedman Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in 1931 by Professor Karl Hedman and his wife Elin. Its purpose is to expand the Ostrobothnian Museum’s collections and promote museum activities in Vaasa. The foundation also issues grants for local heritage work. Its activities are overseen by a three-member board, elected every three years by the Ostrobothnian Historical Museum Association.
