Published: 19.2.2025

The City of Vaasa is conducting an online survey to gather residents' views on the development of sustainable and diverse urban environments. The survey is part of the City of Vaasa's biodiversity programme (LUMO), which aims to protect and promote biodiversity in our city.

Respond and share your opinion on promoting biodiversity in Vaasa. The survey also collects location data on sites that residents have identified as biodiverse or where actions are needed to preserve biodiversity. The results will be used to further develop the LUMO biodiversity programme.

The survey is anonymous and open to all residents, and it will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete it. The survey is available at https://app.maptionnaire.com/q/28mxh6z2yjk8 and it is open until 12 March 2025.

Biodiversity must be safeguarded

Biodiversity refers to the diversity of habitats, species, and genes. It is important because diverse nature supports the functioning of ecosystems, enhances resilience to climate change, and promotes the well-being of people.

The decline in biodiversity can lead to the weakening of ecosystems and the extinction of species, which also negatively impacts us humans.

Vaasa supports conservation work through its biodiversity programme

LUMO is a plan aimed at protecting and enhancing biodiversity. It includes concrete actions and goals, such as the protection of endangered species, the maintenance of ecological networks, and the control of harmful invasive species.

The programme aims to protect and create sustainable, diverse urban environments that support the well-being of nature, people, and animals, while preventing species and habitat loss. At the same time, it also enhances Vaasa’s ability to adapt to climate change.
