Grants for promoting twin town activities were awarded to sports and cultural organisations in Vaasa

In December and January, sports associations and cultural organisations in Vaasa were offered the opportunity to apply for grants to promote twin town activities. Grants totalling €3,600 were awarded to six organisations.
The application period for grants to promote twin town activities for Vaasa’s sports associations and local arts and cultural organisations was open from 16 December 2024 to 17 January 2025. Grants were available for promoting twin town activities, with an emphasis on cultural and sports exchanges between the City of Vaasa and the Municipality of Umeå. The grants were intended for sports associations registered in Vaasa, with a focus on supporting sports activities for children and young people through exchange, or Vaasa-based arts or cultural groups or communities.
Six applications were received, with the total amount of grants requested being €3,600. The Board of Culture and Sports of the City of Vaasa approved the grants for all applicants for 2025 at its meeting on 4 February 2025.
– Cultural exchange brings cultural organisations closer together and diversifies the cultural offerings on both sides. We hope that the support will enable more active cooperation and strengthen the operational conditions of the organisations, says Sanna Bondas, Director of Culture and Library Services.
Grants were awarded to the following organisations:
- 65Hz r.f., €600
- Vaasan kävelyklubi ry, €400
- Wasa Consort, €600
- Vaasan Taidekerho ry, €400
- Working group Markus Bergfors & Petter Näse, €600
- Vaasan toverit ry, €1,000
The funding comes from the proceeds of the Twin Town Fund
The Vaasa City Council decided to establish the Twin Town Fund in its meeting on 28 August 2023. The fund’s capital is increased through investment returns, donations, and other income. Most of the fund’s returns can be used annually to promote twin town activities, with an emphasis on cultural and sports exchange between Vaasa and Umeå.
