Extended self-service hours at the Main Library to include evenings and weekends

Published: 11.2.2025

From 17 February 2025, users of Vaasa Main Library will have more opportunities to read, study, and meet, thanks to a new self-service area. A self-service area, which will remain open after the library’s closing hours, has been set up in the news section and the Proosa café.

The self-service hours are:

  • Monday to Thursday, from 20–22
  • Friday, from 17–19
  • Saturday, from 15–18

How to use the self-service area

After the library closes, customers leave as usual but can return to the self service area through the door on the Raastuvankatu side, using a valid Vaasa City Library card and PIN code. Access is personal, and children under 15 require parental consent or the presence of an adult.

During self-service hours, only the news section and the Proosa café are open. Access to other parts of the library, such as for picking up reservations or borrowing books, is not available.

What can you do in the self-service area?

The self-service area offers Main Library users increased flexibility and new opportunities to make use of the library’s facilities.

You can use the self-service space:

  • for studying and group assignments
  • for meetings
  • for reading newspapers and magazines
  • for using the library’s customer computers.

The space is monitored by recorded CCTV, and a security guard can be called in case of disturbances.
