Curator-led tours offer a deep dive into art – experts guide visitors through two exhibitions

Published: 22.1.2025

Vaasa museums will host two curator-led tours early in the year, where experts will introduce the audience to the key themes and contexts of the exhibitions. The tours showcase two artists from different periods: The Kuntsi Museum will present a retrospective of the artistic work of Meta Isæus-Berlin (b. 1963), one of Sweden's leading contemporary artists. At the Tikanoja Art House, visitors will be offered an overview of the life and art of Eero Järnefelt (1863–1937).

On Wednesday, 29 January 2025 at 15.00, the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art will host a curator-led tour of The Philosopher exhibition by Swedish artist Meta Isæus-Berlin. The exhibition’s curator, Exhibition Manager Maaria Salo, will talk about the artist and the exhibition. The one-hour tour explores Isæus-Berlin’s contemporary art and provides insight into the stories behind her works. The exhibition features ten large installations, for which the artist gained recognition in her home country, as well as over 30 paintings, sculptural objects, textile works, and bronze sculptures. Isæus-Berlin’s work will be exhibited in Finland for the first time, in the extensive solo exhibition at Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art until 30.3.

On Saturday, 22 March 2025, at 13.00, the Tikanoja Art Museum will host a curator-led tour of the Eero Järnefelt exhibition. The tour will be led by Timo Huusko, the exhibition’s curator and Chief Curator at the Ateneum Art Museum, who will talk about Järnefelt’s life and art. Huusko will discuss Järnefelt’s family background, his approach to portraying landscapes and people, as well as his connection to the broader narrative of Finnish history.

Both tours provide the audience with an excellent opportunity to gain fresh insights into art under the guidance of experts.
