Children’s Culture Weeks kick off – fun and events for the whole family during the Puddle weeks in October

October marks the beginning of Puddle Month in Vaasa, offering a diverse cultural programme and events for children and families. The month-long cultural event brings together performances, workshops, and art exhibitions for children of all ages and their families to enjoy.

There will be lots of activities open to the whole family from 1 to 31 October 2024.

Programme highlights:

Tuesday, 1 October Opening ceremony | 17–20 | Main Library, Kirjastonkatu 13
The opening ceremony will feature Circus Simon’s performance ‘We are the champions’, a humorous look at achievements. The performance features football juggling, balancing acts, and audience interaction. Suitable for the whole family.

Art Splashes – fun and enjoyment for the whole family
The Art Splashes offer creative workshops and performances for children and families with children. The Art Splashes, organised at the Main Library, highlight different forms of art.

  • Saturday, 5 October Lamppukärpänen (‘Lamp fly’) | 10–14 | Draama Room
    theatre performance in Finnish at 10.15, in Swedish at 13. The Bugsy workshop is open between performances at Studio Puddle.
  • Saturday, 12 October Lecture on sea monsters | 12–13 | Draama Room
    The rubbish-themed workshop is open before and after the lecture, at 11.00–11.45 and 13.15–14.00.
  • Saturday, 19 October Non-verbal concert | 10.00–14.00 |  Draama Room
    The wordless concert features music and movement for all, performances at 11 and 13.  Workshop at the artificial puddle in the library courtyard before and after the performances.

Thursday, 31 October Ghost night | 17–20 | Main Library, Kirjastonkatu 13
Ghost night for the whole family concludes the Puddle month. The door to the Corridor of Horrors is opened, and the visitors are invited to wear fancy costumes. Age recommendation: 3–18 years

Päin seiniä (‘Off the Wall’) campaign – children’s art on display around Vaasa

In October, kindergarteners from Vaasa will present their art to the local community. For example, Fyrrykartano and Palosaari kindergartens will exhibit artworks created by children using natural materials.

Let’s talk about child-rearing, 9 October

An open discussion evening for families with children and anyone interested in child-rearing at the Main library on 9 October at 16.45–18. The discussion will cover topics such as good parenting and the challenges of raising a child. Jarno Paalasmaa, education influencer, non-fiction author and school principal, and other education experts will lead the discussion. Parallel workshops for children will be held at Studio Puddle. The discussion evening is organised in by the Rudolf Steiner School in Vaasa, the City of Vaasa Welfare Services and Vaasa City Cultural Services, and it is open to the public.

Now in its third year, Puddle has firmly established itself in the Vaasa eventscape. It is organised in partnership with a wide network of children’s culture organisations.
