Academic year and holidays in basic education 2025–2026

The next academic year for basic education in the City of Vaasa will begin on Monday, 11 August 2025 and end on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

In accordance with the Basic Education Act, the length of the school year is 190 school days. Independence Day, Epiphany and May Day that fall on a working day other than a Saturday are deducted from the number of school days. This brings the total number of school days for the academic year 2025–2026 to 188.

The autumn term begins on Monday, 11 August 2025 and the spring term ends on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

Both the autumn and winter breaks will each last five days. The autumn break will take place from 13–17 October 2025, and the winter break from 23–27 February 2026. The Christmas holiday will be from 22 December 2025 to 2 January 2026.

In the upcoming academic year, there will be two Saturday school days: 13 December and 23 May.

The working days for basic education were decided by the Education Board in its meeting on 20 November 2024.
