Bats

Most of the bat sightings around Kaupunginranta are made in Lehmuspuisto and Hietalahti park where even northern bats (Eptesicus nilssonii), whiskered bats (Myotis mustacinus) and Daubenton’s bats (Myotis daubentoniid) have been spotted.

Northern bats get on around human settlements and hunt the insects lured by streetlights for food. Northern bats are not especially photo-sensitive and are not really disturbed by for example traffic. Whiskered bats on the other hand find their food from dark spruce forests and are photosensitive. Daubenton’s bats are most often seen near ponds and trenches.
