Art at the Barracks Camp for Grades 1 to 6, from 2 to 13 June 2025.

Registration for the Art at the Barracks Camp opens on Monday, 10 March 2025, at 10.00. The camp is intended for children of primary school age.

Art camp for children

  • The Art at the Barracks Camp will be held from Monday, 2 June to Friday, 13 June 2025, at TaiKon, Kasarmi 11, Itäinen Kasarmintori 7–9.
  • Morning group from 9:00 to 12:15 and afternoon group from 12:30 to 15:45.
  • The camp introduces participants to various art forms and the use of diverse materials and means of expression.
  • Through various workshops, children can explore different art forms, including theatre, crafts, visual arts, dance, circus, architecture, music, media art, and ceramics.
  • The instructors are experienced art teachers from TaiKon.
  • Instruction is provided in two languages (Finnish and Swedish).  Thus, the camp also serves as a language immersion experience.
  • The camp lasts for two weeks (Monday to Friday) and culminates in an exhibition and a closing event.

Registration and groups

  • Registration for the Art at the Barracks Camp opens on Monday, 10 March 2025, at 10.00.
  • Register for the camp through our online store.
  • The camp has eleven groups: seven in the morning and four in the afternoon.
  • The morning groups are for children aged 7–9, and the afternoon groups are for children aged 10–13, with the exception of one afternoon group for children aged 7–9.
  • When registering, please note that the Art at the Barracks Camp offers several parallel groups. Remember to indicate any friend requests, preferably at the time of registration, so that we can better accommodate your preferences. The children are divided into groups already during the registration phase.
  • Please also inform us of any health conditions your child may have, or any other important details, during registration.

Afternoon Care at the Art at the Barracks Camp

  • If your child requires afternoon care, it will be provided for children in grades 1–3 after the camp day, until 16.00.
  • Afternoon care will be provided under the supervision of skilled supervisors,
  • primarily in the sports facilities on the Barracks area at Artellikuja 4. The afternoon groups will also explore the surrounding parks and green spaces.

NOTE! If you register your child for both the camp and afternoon care, this will be done under a separate course number. The number of afternoon care places is limited. Morning care is not available.

What to bring to the camp?

Clothing

  • We recommend that you dress your child in older clothes for the camp, in case any colour spills.
  • You may also want to pack your child their own apron, as we are unable to provide shared protective aprons.
  • On theatre, circus, and dance days, we recommend wearing comfortable clothes that allow free movement.
  • It’s a good idea to bring a little extra to drink, especially on theatre, circus, and dance days.
  • We will also be spending a lot of time outdoors, so please take this into account when choosing clothing.

Snacks

  • There is a 45-minute lunch break between lessons.
  • Children should bring their own snacks or packed lunches and utensils.
  • The snacks are otherwise up to you, but we kindly ask that you leave sweets and soft drinks at home. There are also children with nut allergies at the camp, so we kindly ask that you do not bring anything that contains nuts.
  • There is a refrigerator at the camp where the children can store their snacks.
  • The staff will assist the children with the microwave if their lunch needs warming up.
  • We kindly ask that you label any lunch boxes to prevent them from getting mixed up with other children’s food.
  • We also advise you to pack a water bottle.
  • There is no food available at the camp or afternoon care, so all meals for the day should be brought from home.

Camp rules

  • Do not come to camp if you are ill or showing symptoms of illness.
  • Always wash your hands when arriving in the classroom and before meals.
  • Remember to close the gates when entering and leaving. There are many young daycare children in the yard, and we want to ensure their safety as well.
  • Please keep your mobile phone in your bag during the camp day and afternoon care.
  • Let’s make this a fun and unforgettable camp together!

Insurance, cancellation policy, and camp fee

Insurance

Camp participants are insured for the duration of the camp by the City of Vaasa. The City of Vaasa has a voluntary group accident insurance, which covers the direct medical costs of accidents in basic arts education and during basic arts education camps and excursions up to 10,000 euros.

The insurance covers immediate medical treatment in both public and private healthcare facilities. In addition, the parents or guardians of a child can take out an additional accident and/or property insurance if they so wish.

Cancellation policy for registrations

Cancellation of registration for the Art at the Barracks Camp is possible up to two weeks before the camp starts. This allows us to inform those on the waiting list.  In case you cancel later, we will have to charge 50% of the camp fee (however, there will be no charge with a medical certificate).

Camp fee

If the camp fee has not been paid at the time of registration, an invoice for the camp will be mailed to you in June.
