Morning and afternoon activities
The City of Vaasa arranges morning and afternoon activities for pupils in Grades 1 and 2 as well as for pupils in other grades who are eligible for special support.
Activities are voluntary and paid for by the families. A placement can be granted if both parents are working, studying, or if there is another specific reason for the need.
Morning and afternoon activities are organised during school days from 8am to 4pm.
The City of Vaasa’s basic education is responsible for the activities. In some schools, the city organizes them, while in others, a service provider does. The activities take place either in the school building or in nearby facilities. Each unit has a supervisor in charge.
The aim of the morning and afternoon activities is to reduce the time children spend alone, away from the presence of a responsible adult, before and after the school day. The goal is to provide the children with a versatile range of refreshing and stimulating high-quality leisure activities.
Transportation for morning and afternoon activities is only provided for students with disabilities, for whom a special care programme has been made. Read more about school tranportation from this link.
Registration
Applications for morning and afternoon activities are made electronically for one school year at a time via the Wilma registration program. Application period is yearly in January – February. The registration for the academic year 2025-2026 is open 20.1.–14.2.2025 in Wilma.
Log in to Wilma. The application form can be found under Applications and Decisions: Morning and afternoon activities 2025-2026 -> New application. The application is not visible in the Wilma mobile app but can be accessed through a web browser.
The decisions on the activity groups for the school year are based on the number of applications submitted within the stipulated time. The decision will be available in Wilma during May.
It is also possible to apply for a place on special grounds during the middle of the school term via Wilma (April 1st to December 20th) or after that by filling in the application form. Applications submitted after the application period will be considered and may be accepted if there is space available in the groups.
Fees
There is a standard monthly fee of 120 € for morning and afternoon activities starting from 1.8.2023. The fee is 126 € per month starting from August 1st, 2025. Payment includes managed activities, snacks (afternoon), materials and insurance.
Exemption or reduction from the fee
A fee exemption for the participation fee can be granted on financial and social grounds. The fee exemption is applied for by filling out the fee exemption application form.
The guardian can apply for an exemption or reduction of the fee after the school year / activity has started. If the family’s income changes after the decision or the family size increases, this must be reported to the City of Vaasa’s basic education (contact details are provided on the form). A reduction or exemption of the participation fee granted based on incorrect information may be reclaimed from the customer retroactively.
A decision to reduce the participation fee by 50 percent or to grant an exemption can be made starting from the beginning of the month in which the application with attachments has been received by basic education. The decision is valid until the end of the current school year at most.
A reduction or exemption of the participation fee is not granted retroactively.
Sibling discount
A sibling discount can be granted for the morning and afternoon activities fee if more than one child from the same family participates in the activities.
The youngest child participating in the morning and afternoon activities is always considered the first child of the family. When more than one child from the same family is participating in the activities, the fee for the next child will be determined, and it will be up to 50 percent of the fee for the youngest child. The fee for the other children will be 20% of the fee determined for the family’s youngest child.
The discount is applied for using the sibling discount form.
Sibling discount is not granted retroactively.
Absence from the activity
If the child, due to illness, is unable to participate in the morning and afternoon activities for more than 10 days within a calendar month, only half of the fee will be charged. If the absence due to illness lasts for an entire calendar month, no fee will be charged. The condition is that the child has also been unable to attend school lessons due to illness.
If the child, due to another reason that has been notified in advance, does not participate in the activities for a whole calendar month, half of the monthly fee will be charged. This must be communicated in writing in advance to the group leader responsible.

The morning and afternoon activity place can be terminated through Wilma or by submitting the cancellation form.
