Lay-offs

A laid-off employee refers to both individuals who have been fully laid off and those whose working hours have been reduced. A lay-off can therefore be either full-time or part-time. In both cases, unemployment benefits can help secure your livelihood during the lay-off period.

If you’re laid off, register as a job seeker via Job Market Finland’s E-services no later than your first day of lay-off. You can also register before the lay-off or reduced working hours begin. You will receive unemployment benefits during the lay-off if you’re registered as a job seeker and meet the other conditions for receiving the benefit.

If your lay-off is temporary and lasts no longer than three months, you likely won’t need personal guidance from Employment Services. However, if you would like to receive guidance, you can contact Employment Services.
