Technology and innovation as tools for climate efforts
The City of Vaasa promotes climate actions through technology and innovation. This involves close collaboration with universities, energy technology companies, and other municipalities to develop new solutions for combating climate change. These measures aim to strengthen skills and create new jobs in the region, as well as accelerate the transition towards a carbon neutral future.
Technology and innovation to support climate targets
New IoT platform reduces carbon footprints, streamlines mobility, and saves costs
With transport now being the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions, it is clear that we need to reduce these emissions. But how can we do this in the most optimal manner? This is where city development becomes a concern at the information system level.
The IoT platform brings together essential real-time and predictive data in one place, allowing the design of information-driven innovations. The IoT system implemented by Wapice Oy for the City of Tampere was awarded the International Smart City Innovation of the Year, specifically due to its practical benefits.
The City of Vaasa has selected Wapice Oy as the service provider for its IoT platform, situational traffic data, and energy data monitoring in buildings. The project will be funded through the EU’s Innovation Ecosystems programme, with a total value of 105,000€ over the two-year contract period. The project was launched in April 2024.
